Question by wednesday: My roommate is trying to make me fat!?
My friend/roommate is trying to make me fat! Help!?
We are both good friends. She and I while both of normal size have a little more flab in the typical problem areas for women, but I decided to start working out everyday and results were very visible, I am now much more toned. So then we move in together, and my roommate notices this. She gets jealous because she refuses to do anything that requires her moving her body at all. I don’t know why she refuses to exercise, she just wont do it, she wont even run. Or even dance when we go out. Or even swim with the all us girls when we go swimming. She just hangs out on the shore or sits in the shallow end.
She wont let me do my jump rope outside because it’s too noisy for her even though her room is on the other side of the flat, the walls are thick and it’s already near a noisy highway so it doesnt make much much of a difference between the flicking of a rope and beeping horns, does it? She laughs and makes fun of me loudly whenever I try to do yoga, and the better I get ( I can now touch my toes and do this yoga trick where I go from leaning on my elbow into a backbend-AWESOME) the worse the mocking gets. And she disrupts me during meditation. I have explained to her that yoga is the one thing that helps me with my depression that I recently recovered from (I wont take pills) but she still makes sure I cant do it when shes there)
Whenever I come back from a jog, she tries to tempt me with food, none of which works because I no longer have that need to attack junk food with my bare teeth anymore.
But even generally, when she cooks ( shes working towards being a head chef) she makes it less healthy than it should be, even for her organic cooking standards. She paid heaps for a 100% organic diet 2 years ago (which she went off due to the cost) whereas I just eat natural foods and work out everyday and it’s working so much better on me.
I noticed her issue long before we moved in too. We were having a dancing competition with one of those Wii games at my friends house and I did ten dances in a row (she sat there refusing to dance at all) and when I was done she went straight to the pantry, and put a box of Twinkies on the table in front of me. I can tell its intentional because of the look of anxiety that builds up on her face and the instant sweep of relief that occurred the moment I grabbed one. (Thank god I dont eat them anymore!)
I have confronted her about this.
I say something to her everytime she does it, but she keeps doing it! It’s not stopping me from keeping healthy but it’s really making me unhappy that she is willing to make me unhappy. I never want to go back to where I was again. I told her that I was in a bad place, mentally and physically, but it seems like she doesnt care. We were never THAT close, we are good friends and we are suited as roomies because we are both responsible and trustworthy but this is the one thing thats getting to me!
I think what has her concerned is that if I finally tone up to get that bikini body (which Im close to getting) she’ll be the ‘fattest’ one in the group because the other two girls are naturally lanky.
This is very juvenile of her. Help me!!!
shes my friend and the place is nice and she payed more for the bond than i did so im still paying her back. shes really good about everything but this. she payed for about 65% of the stuff cos i was in bad place financially when we were moving so i dont want to screw her over

Question by /Z/: I’m embarrassed to go and shop in a health store?
I want to go to this natural health store in the city mall and buy things like stress relief and vitamin medications, however I am a very shy person and feel anxious about the whole thing. I’m 17 and paranoid the shopkeepers might think its weird for a youth to be buying those sorts of products, and paranoid I’ll be seen by people I know such as from school who will ask me what I’m doing and tell other people. I have a secret in school, that is I’m gay, so I fear what I do will be earmarked by people as ‘gay’.
So I need a way to force myself to go to the store surrounded by heaps of people of all ages who are “judging” me and when I’m in the shop, to not get anxious and be out of there without having looked around thoughtfully.

Answer by Why 32?
Honey, I’d go with you. But unfortunately I probably can’t. :c
Don’t worry, I get anxious about doing things myself sometimes!
Just bring along an mp3 player and crank it up to block out the sounds in your surroundings. It helps me, it might help you.
Don’t worry about the judging part. Judge back.
Best of luck!

Question by Gatlin: Which homeopathic remedy works best for Major Anxiety / Panic Attacks before important events?
I also sweat a lot on the forehead and can’t seem to stop sweating till the event has passed. Then, I feel drained out and depressed and I know I can perform well but simply lose my nerve. I’ve tried positive affirmations, facing-my-fears, etc. but feel that I need to try homeopathy now. Any help?
Best answer:
Answer by Kris L
Get a tea made from Lavender, Chamomile, and Spearmint. Make it double strong by steeping it and then putting the tea back on the stove to simmer until it’s half gone. Drink a cup before the event, and drink it after when you start to go down. It will help in both … it makes you calmer so that you don’t sweat or get any of the other anxiety/panic attack symptoms, and also fights depression. Warning … if you drink this after when you are down you’ll feel calmer, but will also get very sleepy. Take a power nap (no more than an hour) and then drink a good regular strength caffeinated tea like Earl Grey with Double Bergamot to help you wake up …

Question by upnatom77: How to treat PMDD under these circumstances?
I’m a 29 year old woman who has always had issues with fairly severe anxiety and depression, even as a child. I’ve seen several therapists and been on just about every antidepressant/anti anxiety med out there, including “natural” remedies like 5-HTP. However, nothing seems to “take”, since I’ve never felt as though I have experienced any relief from these issues;the therapists never seemed to help, and neither did the pills..they either gave me incredibly bad side effects or simply did not work at all, just as if I was taking a sugar pill. Every professional I’ve seen about this is stumped as to why this is.
I’ve always been prone to incredibly strong rages/crying spells when under stress, and they tend to come every 2 weeks or so. This Christmas I had a horrible meltdown while my family was in town, right before my period, no less. My mom, who had seen me have times like this many times before, suggested that I might have PMDD.
From what I’ve read, this is treated with 1.) Antidepressants, 2.) Psychological counseling, and 3.) horomone therapy, like birth control pills. This makes me lose hope that I can be treated effectively, as I am currently on birth control pills and as mentioned before, do not respond as well as I should to antidepressants/therapy.
Are there any other treatments out there I could try?

Answer by mcqlove87
My doc said that I might have PMDD and she recommended that I take Serafem. It really does help. Your doc will probably start you out with the lowest dosage, but it can be elevated if needed. If you wanted a more natural approach, try St. Johns Wart.

Question by C.J.: Can you point out the correct and incorrect statements in this list?
My friend wrote this and I’m not sure how true it all is…
“1. Cat declawing is wrong. The vet chops off their claws and the first joint. The cats have pain in their feet for the rest of their lives. You take away their natural defenses, and they sometimes even scratch for stress relief or entertainment. They test painkillers on declawed cats 2 c if they work. One cat even died from declawing. The vet refused 2 admit it, tho. 44% of vets don’t even use painkillers when they chop off the joints. It’s like if your young child misbehaves, you chop off the ends of their fingers. Most vets will not perform it on cats more than 1 year, but they’ll do it when they’re young as 3 months, which can mess up their paws forever.
2. Declawing is not only for cats. They do it to bears, big cats, and even dogs.
3. There is as special procedure for dogs. It’s called debarking. They remove some tissues in their throats so their bark is not as loud. After that their bark is practically a whisper.
4. Clipping bird’s wings is cruel as well. They can never fly again. If they are outside, they are likely to die by being eaten by predators. Since they can’t fly away, they will be slain.
5. Keeping amazon parrots and macaws as pets is mean 2. They are taken away from their homes, and are never allowed to return.”
Thankss!

Answer by B!nd!
Ok, this is obviously poorly written, researched, and is not intelligently typed, but rather emotionally written, which is not appropriate for a report.
I am not an expert on cat declawing. It is actually outlawed in Australia- so it is not an issue I need to deal with here. I believe that the tips of the cat’s toes are cut off- I dont know if this is the 1st or last joint.
I dont think the cats have pain in their feet for the rest of their lives. As far as dying from declawing goes- yes it is definately possible- declawing involves surgery and there is always risks in surgery- from anesthesia, infection, stress, etc. Most of the time it is not as a direct result of having surgery- but more from the individual cat’s lack of physical ability to cope with the surgery. But this can be said of any surgery- the risks are the same. If a cat were to die from declawing it would most likely have died from desexing, anyway.
As far as the % of vets not using painkillers- I really dont believe that. It sounds like made up crap from someone who is trying to convince people not to declaw their cats. Vets should be more responsible than that.
Declawing is definately a painful procedure, and yes- the cats paws are different because they are missing the ends. They need to relearn how to walk, and the procedure often takes months to recover from.
I have never heard of declawing dogs, but I have heard of declawing bears and other animals. I would think this only happens in countries where there is limited animal rights and welfare.
Yes- debarking exists. As far as I know it is also outlawed in Australia, although you occasionally come across older dogs who have had the procedure preformed before it was banned. I think it is unnecessarily cruel- but sometimes in the cases of problem barkers where the owner cant take proper care of the dog, and it is either have the dog debarked, or leave it in a shelter and risk it being euthenased- it is probably the lesser of two evils.
#4 is completely wrong. Birds with clipped wings can still fly- they just cant fly up. And the feathers grow back annually. You only clip pet bird’s wings- so there is no reason why they should be outside and fly away. If they were outside- it is much safer having the wing clipped because otherwise they could fly away- and then they would be killed because they dont know how to survive in the wild.
#5 again is completely wrong. As long as you are providing these birds with appropriate care and stimulation, they are fantastic to keep as pets. Parrots make great companion animals, as long as you have the knowledge, time and money to care for them properly.
Most of these birds are bred in captivity, and there are only few wild caught birds now, if any. In most places it is illegal to poach birds out of the wild- and most wild caught birds would be kept as aviary breeders for handreared pets, rather than being kept as pets themselves.
